Basic Tools for Solar Installation at The Renova Energy Academy
What it takes to professionally install solar.
Watch Video >

Renova Energy Corp. has developed the Renova Energy Academytm to encourage local education in the emerging renewable energy/energy efficiency industry for the next generation of Energy Creatives. Although some consider them mutually exclusive, our mission is to establish them as one industry with one intent - to conserve resources and utilize naturally-occurring earth cycles to generate the power to sustain the planet's population.

As the region's only renewable energy, private enterprise educational program, we have broadened our core business practice into introductory educational offerings to further our mission to educate our local labor force to effectively and rapidly help ensure that our community remains relevant in the new energy economy. Through our affiliation with the University of California at Riverside's Extension program, the Cadets who attend the GreenZone training facility receive professional instruction. And, as an Education Provider for the US Green Building Council, all of our programs are in various stages of approval for credit under Council plans as well. They include Solar Photovoltaic, Solar Thermal, Energy Efficiencies, Electric Vehicle Maintenance and Trends in Energy Efficiencies and Technologies.

Designed to train entry level installers and serve as a pre-apprenticeship while providing a solid foundation, the Academy's areas of focus are renewable energy principles, utility technology fundamental practices and technologies and first phase training. This ranges from the installation of basic energy efficiencies and solar panels to the fundamentals of working in and around utility-scale renewable energy fields. The first ever course in Solar Photovoltaic delivered in the Coachella Valley was taught at our Academy and this inaugural class graduated with a certificate in Solar Photovoltaic (PV) installation on December 19, 2009. On February 20, 2010 we introduced the region's first Solar Thermal course, with an emphasis on preparing the Cadets for the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioner (NABCEP) Entry Level Solar Thermal exam.

Our Cadets come from both public and private sector sources, and classes are open to all regardless of a lack of energy-related work experience, education (though High School diploma or equivalent and a prerequisite level in reading and basic math must be met), career background or labor affiliation.

The program is being heralded by Valley leaders as a necessary step for the Coachella Valley to maintain its momentum as a leading market in the future of standardizing best practices in the integration of energy efficiencies and alternative energy.

"This program was very informative on photovoltaic, also known as P.V.  in the industry.  This is what we know as solar electricity, and not only did I learn about the fundamentals of electric and P.V. but I also was given hands on training in P.V. installation of solar array. The training was set in a team environment which was a lot of fun.

The best thing about this course was that I was given the tools to start my own business if I choose to do so or I can work in the field, but I think the best of it all is that I wouldn't walk away with nothing learned and just another certification.  I've obtained a lot of exciting information on solar usage which will help are planets survival in the future and the future of our children's children.

I recommend this class for someone who would like to seek employment in this field or just for the educational value. This class will start you thinking in a "green" way and I don't think you will stop at the educational value of it.  Thank you Vince and the family at the GreenZone."
